The vaccination campaign for polio will be start on 8th of April 2012

The EPI unite in DoH Duhok is ready to implement a 5 days Polio National Immunization Days starting from sunday 8th April 2012.

The aim of this campaign as many other similar campaigns conducted since 1997 is to eradicate Poliomyelitis within the Global Polio Eradication Strategy, and this will be done by reaching all the children under five years with specific short period of time.

By doing so we give a chance to those children who were not reached during the Routine Immunization. This group accumulates every year, depending on Routine Immunization target population, 5% of children who were unvaccinated in five years can be enough to create outbreak. In Duhok Governorate annually the number of under 1 years old children who complete the 3rd dose of oral polio vaccine dose is less than 80%.

Our target for this campaign is 173213 child (aged 0 day- 5 years), 451 vaccination teams trained for this issue 410 team of them will visit the families from house to house, supervised by 74 doctors and medical staffs.
